Scheel, Walter (*1919); FDP; banker, then soldier; 1945-53, managing director; 1953-74, member of the Bundestag; 1956-74, member of the federal board of the FDP; 1961-66, Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation; 1968-74, federal chairman of the FDP; 1969-74, Federal Foreign Minister and Vice-Chancellor; 1974-79, Federal President; together with Willy Brandt, Scheel was a key figure in the first federal coalition between the SPD and FDP.
