Air Pollution in Brunsbüttel (1985)

Although more stringent environmental regulations had been passed and public awareness of the dangers of air pollution had increased since the 1970s as a result the environmental movement, damage to flora and fauna often continued because managers and unionists argued that jobs were the top priority. This photograph shows dead birds that had fallen from trees surrounding the chemical factory in Brunsbüttel in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Photo by Günter Zint.
