Moritz Steinschneider (n.d.)

Often referred to as the “father of Jewish bibliography,” Moritz Steinschneider was the first scholar to author a systematic overview of Jewish literature from the late eighteenth century on. He published catalogues of the Hebrew books and manuscripts found in the major libraries of Europe, including the Bodleian Library, Oxford. This work laid the foundation for his reputation as the most important Jewish bibliographer.
